Scaling Hibernate: tips, recipes and new perspectives

Abstract

Hibernate is the most popular ORM used in a wide range of industries.
Ever wondered how to push it to the limit? Ever wondered how high volumes and high scale web sites use Hibernate? Ever wondered how to give you database some fresh air thanks to Hibernate?

This BOF covers patterns and practices to achieve high volume and high scalability with Hibernate. It also describes how to use Hibernate Shards and Hibernate Search to push the scalability to the next level.

  • Hibernate Core and scalability
    • stateless session
    • multiple databases and Social Networks / SaaS
    • why hibernate Core works fine in high scalable sites from the ground up
    • why Seam and the Hibernate conversation model is best for your web site
  • Hibernate Shards and horizontal partitioning (when does it help and when does it not
  • Hibernate Search and how it save you DB's butt for queries and how it scale out in a friendly model

This is just a schedule proposal and will evolve with user experience and feedback provided by the audience.
